Ronaldo misses Portugal training as coach denies rift
Ronaldo left Portugal's training camp after coach Jesus denied a rift. Ronaldo's absence sparked speculation, but Jesus said no incident occurred. Ronaldo's future remains unclear.

Cristiano Ronaldo did not participate in Portugal's training session ahead of their Nations League match against Denmark, prompting speculation about a rift with coach Jorge Jesus. However, Jesus denied any conflict, stating there was 'no incident whatsoever.' The 41-year-old forward was not present at the final whistle after Portugal's 2-1 win over Norway on Sunday and did not join his teammates in celebrating with fans. Instead, he went directly to the changing rooms, leading to reports of dissatisfaction.
Jesus, speaking before the match against Denmark, said he had informed Ronaldo he would not start but might come on later. 'Afterwards, as coach, I decided not to bring him on. It's nothing to make a fuss about,' he added. The coach also dismissed claims Ronaldo had refused to train, saying the forward had done individual exercises for 'mobility' and 'strengthening' but would train normally on Wednesday. However, Ronaldo did not join his teammates on the pitch in Copenhagen, with Portuguese media sharing a video of him leaving Parken stadium with two members of the backroom staff.
Ronaldo confirmed on Wednesday that he had left the training camp after a 'turbulent few hours' in Copenhagen, stating he would share the 'truth about the reasons behind my departure' later. The Portugal squad arrived at their hotel without Ronaldo and without Jesus, with both still unaccounted for. Ronaldo's private jet was reportedly heading to Copenhagen, and Spanish media reported he intended to board a private flight to Madrid.
Jesus told reporters not to 'manufacture a controversy' and said it was normal for Ronaldo to miss team training in the days after a match. 'He didn’t refuse. He’s going to train today,' Jesus said. 'And he didn’t refuse to train. It’s impossible. Do you believe that? Not Cris.' The coach also said he had spoken to Ronaldo about the situation, but there was 'nothing to talk about.'
Portugal's FPF President Pedro Proenca travelled to Copenhagen on Tuesday, reportedly to meet Jesus and Ronaldo before the Nations League match. Ronaldo, Portugal's record goalscorer with 146 goals and most-capped player with 234 appearances, had previously said the media had been trying to 'kill' him for years and that he could leave 'today' if the manager did not want him in the squad.
What remains unknown is the exact nature of Ronaldo's absence and whether there was any disagreement between him and Jesus. The situation has not been clarified by either party, and further developments are expected as the team prepares for their next match.
