Uttar Pradesh has achieved a historic milestone in the implementation of the Prime Minister's Solar Home Free Electricity Scheme by installing more than 8,76,500 rooftop solar plants, securing the first position in the country in terms of installation. Uttar Pradesh has achieved this feat by leaving Gujarat behind. This success is the result of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's resolve of 'Solar Energy for Every Home' and the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, as well as the efforts and continuous monitoring of the Minister of Urban Development and Energy, A K Sharma. With the continuous monitoring of Energy Minister A.K. Sharma, Uttar Pradesh Electricity Development Agency, Electricity Department, DISCOMs, Banking Institutions and Authorized Vendors have collectively advanced the scheme in mission mode. The speed of rooftop solar installation has increased due to regular reviews at the district level, banking follow-up, monitoring of metering and quick resolution of pending cases.

The Minister of Urban Development and Energy, A K Sharma, stated that more than 2,942 megawatts of rooftop solar capacity has been installed in the state, which has the capacity to produce more than 1.32 crore units of clean electricity per day. This not only reduces the electricity cost for millions of families, but also strengthens the state's energy self-reliance. It is estimated that rooftop solar saves the equivalent of about 11,700 acres of land and reduces annual CO₂ emissions by more than 34 lakh tons. This environmental benefit is equivalent to the carbon absorbed by more than 15 crore trees in one year. The Prime Minister's Solar Home Scheme has also created new employment opportunities in the state. More than 8,000 vendors have been empowered by UPNEDA, creating more than one lakh direct employment opportunities in the solar energy sector. Meanwhile, the ecosystem of solar manufacturing and related industries is rapidly developing in various industrial areas of the state, including Noida, Greater Noida, Jewar, Dadri, Mathura and Ghaziabad.

The impact of the scheme's success is also visible in the ranking of the districts. 15 districts of the state are included in the top 100 in the country. Among them, Lucknow has secured the first position in the country, while Varanasi is in the 10th position. The impact of central and state subsidies of more than ₹7,700 crore has made it easier for household consumers to adopt rooftop solar.

Minister Sharma said that this achievement of Uttar Pradesh is not limited to the number one ranking in the country, but is an important step towards implementing the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's resolve of a clean, self-reliant and green India. Uttar Pradesh is now not only the number one state in rooftop solar installation, but also establishing a strong identity among the leading states of the country in the direction of solar energy, green jobs and clean energy-based economy.
