Prime Minister Narendra Modi today called for global south nations to have a say in shaping global rules. He emphasized that if the future of all is collective, then the authority to decide should also be collective. He spoke at the BRICS summit in New Delhi.

BRICS nations should become the ones who make rules, following the rules set by others. This would enable young leaders, policy makers, and others to gain experience, practical knowledge, and legal understanding, Modi said. He highlighted the contributions of BRICS nations in artificial intelligence, cyber technology, space, biotechnology, and other important fields. He noted that while global south nations are at the forefront in global crises, they are not given a leading role in decision-making. Therefore, he urged that the decision-making process should not be centralized in the hands of a few wealthy nations, but rather be inclusive, working for human development.

To this end, he presented 10 proposals to member nations. Among them is the need for rapid and time-bound reforms in the United Nations Security Council.

Modi said that global institutions working at the international level should act swiftly, extensively, and inclusively to help citizens at the grassroots level, to build trust among people. He also proposed establishing new mechanisms for the benefit of coastal communities.

India's BRICS presidency is people-centered and human rights-based. Modi praised the BRICS group for working together with unity and consensus over the last 20 years. He emphasized the need for BRICS nations to drive major global changes based on this capacity. He also expressed the hope that decisions within BRICS nations should remain consistent.
