A 23-year-old woman in southeast Bengaluru alleged that a man claiming to be a fridge technician molested her during a repair visit at her home. According to her complaint, she contacted a home appliance firm via an internet-based phone number on September 3 to schedule refrigerator repairs. A man arrived and introduced himself as the company’s technician. The woman said he began the repair work and asked her to assist in picking up materials. While she was helping, the technician allegedly touched her inappropriately and spoke to her in an objectionable manner. As she shouted at him, he stopped the work and left the house.

The woman’s husband returned home from work and discussed the incident with her. They planned to call the technician the next day to complete the repair. The accused agreed and visited her home on September 4. As he attempted to misbehave again, the woman’s husband and neighbors confronted him. He was beaten up but managed to escape. Begur police registered a case of sexual harassment. A senior officer stated, 'We have traced the accused and have served him a notice for further investigation. The offence is punishable with less than seven years, so we cannot arrest him and produce before the court. We will be filing a report to the court based on the evidence.'

The incident has sparked discussions about the safety of home service providers and the need for stricter verification processes. Local authorities have emphasized the importance of reporting such incidents and ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable. The police have assured that they will proceed with the investigation and file a report to the court based on the evidence provided.

The woman, whose name has been changed, expressed her concern about the lack of oversight in home service industries. She stated, 'I didn’t expect this when I called for repairs. I just wanted my fridge fixed, not to be harassed.' Her husband added, 'We were shocked and decided to take action. We cannot let such behavior go unchecked.'

The police have advised residents to verify the credentials of service providers before allowing them into their homes. They have also urged victims to report any incidents promptly. The case highlights the need for greater awareness and preventive measures to protect individuals from such misconduct. As the investigation continues, the community awaits further developments and the outcome of the legal proceedings.

In the meantime, local authorities are reviewing existing protocols to enhance safety measures for home service visits. They are considering implementing stricter verification processes and increasing police presence in areas with reported incidents. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and the need for a safer environment for all residents.
