Congress has demanded that during caste-based census, separate enumeration be conducted for other backward classes to officially record the population of each social group. The party said that if accurate information about the population, social-educational status and economic conditions of the OBC community is available, it would facilitate the planning of various welfare schemes. Under the leadership of senior Congress leader Nanaji Tarale, a delegation met Governor Jishnu Dev Varma in Mumbai today to submit the petition. The state is facing drought conditions due to lack of rainfall, and Congress has also demanded that drought be declared immediately, provide financial assistance to farmers and ensure fodder and water arrangements for livestock.
